We have been updating our payment facilities here at PDS (you find us by guiding toward the aluminium dome). All payment is now processed by PayPal. It is all good though, you do not need a Paypal account to use this service, just a normal credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Solo, Maestro etc). Just hit the 'Add to Cart' button. The website has also had some general updating.
We operated the Palimpsest Festival for 4 years in Cambridge, UK. The Sublime Frequencies show that just passed in May, allowed us to visit the seventh ring of Saturn. Can't get any higher than that, so the festival is laying dormant. Here is a wee reminder of the eve.
New label 'Grist' added (Pete UMs imprint) and 'Exploratory Music Service' free downloads via Doozer Industries.

'strange monotonous tensions and will keep you listening with bated breath. i like the way they seem to have bypassed all ‘conventional’ modes of normal improvisation.' sound projector

C Joynes 'Pianer Magick'
PR07
3" cdr on silkscreened card (2 colours & 7" size)
piano / prepared / boxes / improv
'english player c joynes reached us a few weeks ago with his great guitar cd for bo'weavil recordings. here he is with a mysterious mini-cd pianer magick (PR07) for the cambridge-based cdr label palimpsest recordings. eleven short pieces for the piano appear at first to be inconclusive abrupt and inscrutable, yet I am persuaded there is much hidden meaning locked in these haiku-like statements. the cover art seems to depict a flock of wild birds, seen through the overlaid rough-hewn mandala with a square cut out of it. very good.' sound projector
Lionshare 'From the Ground'
PR008
CD /LP
british/psych/folk/cambridge/green
lp ltd to 500 copies on 180 gsm vinyl
'the album was recorded live on vintage recording equipment, so it’s no surprise that the album has a timeless quality to it. it's an interesting, dense, beautiful and rewarding piece of work, which would make a welcome addition to the record collection of anyone with a passing interest in the more experimental end of the folk spectrum'. tasty fanzine
'this combines rich instrumentation with a slightly ramshackle character to produce an album of psychedelic folk with echoes of Kevin Ayers, David Thomas Broughton and even Robert Wyatt, as seen through a filter of classic Brit-folk'. jumbo records
'an outstanding debut which doesn’t just hint at greatness but delivers it fresh and sanguine on a plate'. moving tone

Jupiterdogs
PR06
3" cdr on card stock with stickers
(7" size)
improv/time travel/death blues/garage
'this one has four tracks again, but adds a piano to the mix of instruments, giving the proceedings a heavier, darker atmosphere than before. the tracks end abruptly and the whole thing has the feel of something you've observed sub rosa, but there's something jandek-like about the whole thing that I find wildly appealing' jon dale, the wire
'highly intriguing outing of low key darkness' sound projector

Dead Rat Orchestra 'Live at St. Martin's Church'
PR02
cdr on hand painted cardstock in various colours & 2 cover variants
(fold over cd size)
free folk/modern composition/improv/pipes/microtones
'ending with the same tinkling percussion in which the album began, the set feels less like a short run CDR of a rambling improvisation than a brilliant “live” album in an age when that seems to be a quickly diminishing term' kenneth zubiate, foxy digitalis
'truely underground, experimental and intrinisically unclassifiable. highly recommended for those with ears for eccentricity and originality'. leicester bangs

new sleeve design for numbers 100 - 300. cdr on mount board with postal paper front cover.
Haeti & CR 'Uncle Bill'
PR04
cdr on cardstock
(7" size)
drone/tones/folk song/max msp/gamelan/cacophony/voice
'an excellent example of contemporary improvisation, which leans nobly towards the morton feldman-inspired corner of modern composition.' boomkat

Jupiter Dogs 'Jupiter Dogs'
PR03
3" cdr on card stock with stickers & 3 back cover variants
(7" size)
improv/guitars/violin/death blues/psych/plonk/rock/robes/outsider/room
'the results sound as drugged as the atmosphere reportedly was, and the string bash gently into each other as they slow race to get under
our skin. the material is extremely diffuse but as compelling as hell' byron coley, the wire
'it gets props for interesting packaging (a 3” mini disc on a hand-stickered card) and for sounding like the score to a low budget indie flick.
it has the right amount of dark tension and some very beautiful melodies at times' erica rucker, foxy digitalis
nearly all releases handmade and limited to 2oo copies unless noted otherwise
